The Weminuche Wilderness is the largest wilderness area in Colorado spanning almost half a million acres. Waterfalls, lakes, and hot springs seems to be the theme of this area. Groups can set up a base camp at many of the camping trailheads and day hike to the falls, lakes and springs. More than just a weekend is recommended for this adventure!
Students from South Seminole Baptist Church, Seminole, TX, experienced Wilderness Camp this past week in the mountains of south central New Mexico. Students participated in small group bible study, a six mile hike up and down the mountain, navigated through an orienteering course and enjoyed a swim in the lake! Students also explored old mines and learned the basics of setting up camp (tent pitching, meal preparation and clean up).
ReCreation Adventure Ministries has just completed a risk management expedition to extended sections of the Ouachita Trail in Oklahoma/Arkansas. This trail is best suited for experienced backpackers. Those who live in the south/southeastern region of our country would find this expedition challenging and less travel than the other areas in the west.
Safety is a priority on ReCreation Adventure Expeditions. Training as a Wilderness First Responder can be obtained through Wilderness Medicine Training Center International. All of ReCreation Adventure Ministry’s Expedition leaders are trained through this organization.
The photos below are men from Mescalero Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas. Over the 3 day weekend, we hiked the North side of the Crest Trail of the White Mountains. Early mornings were spent discovering what it means to be men of integrity. Biblical definitions and examples were highlighted in the study. The weekend was a great time of fellowship and encouragement.
This year the Simons’ family gathered at the Grand Canyon for their 2019 Family Reunion. They day hiked the South Kiabab and Bright Angel Trails. Evening devotions focused on essentials of family relationships from I and II Samuel. Be thankful and prayerful for family, as well as honor and invest in family.
The Ouachita Trail stretches across Eastern Oklahoma to Western Arkansas for more than 200 miles. These men backpacked a section of the trail, taking time in the evening to study what Jesus had to say about abiding in Him from John 15. They are planning to return at a future date to explore even more of the trail!
Students studied Psalm 57 and learned about seeking spiritual refuge in the Lord. During a brief thunderstorm, the students sought physical refuge in a grove of trees. Seeing an application of the scripture on the expedition helped these students understand what the word 'refuge' meant and how God can provide spiritual refuge in the 'storms of life'.
